Big Hero 6

Our family has a new favorite movie…Big Hero 6! Have you seen it yet? We weren’t able to watch it in the theater, despite LC’s wishes, but this week it was released on DVD and Blu-Ray, so I picked up a copy at our local Walmart just in time for our Friday Family Fun Night! Every Friday, we have special plans to spend quality time together doing something all three of us enjoy, so this week, Big Hero 6 was on the agenda!

Not only was the “regular” DVD available, there’s also an exclusive 2 disc pack featuring a gift with purchase (while supplies last). Your purchase of the Big Hero 6 Blu-Ray/DVD + Gift With Purchase Set includes a digital movie on Vudu while supplies last! Simply scan your receipt using the Savings Catcher in the Walmart app. Then look for a message on your phone or email. Now you can watch Big Hero 6 on any device!

And trust me, you will want to watch it again and again and again! It’s a sweet and inspiring story about an unlikely group of heroes who use their intelligence and their own “superpowers” to stop an enemy bent on revenge. It’s a tale of self-sacrifice, friendship, and teamwork with an interesting plot and best of all, the lovable character Baymax {who just may be my new favorite Disney character ever}. Besides just watching the movie together, we decided to have some fun recreating Baymax as both a clay figurine and a tasty snack! Here’s how we did both, so you can too!

BAYMAX MARSHMALLOW SNACK

Marshmallow Baymax

This snack requires very few “supplies,” and you can easily grab them at Walmart when you’re picking up the movie.

You need:
– large and mini marshmallows {5 mini and one large per Baymax}
– toothpicks or pretzel sticks
– Food Writer marker {optional}

Step 1: Attach a mini marshmallow turned on its side to the top of a large marshmallow using a toothpick or pretzel stick. If you prefer, you can use white icing as “glue” instead. I personally used toothpicks to get the look I wanted, but if you want the entire thing to be edible, go for it!

Step 2: Attach two more mini marshmallows to the bottom of the large marshmallow to be Baymax’s legs.

Step 3: Roll two mini marshmallows in your fingers to elongate them a bit, then attach them to the body as arms.

Step 4: Add eyes with food safe marker.

This snack is sure to be a hit with the whole family, I mean, who doesn’t love marshmallows?! Plus, it’s easy enough that even little folks can do a pretty decent job on their own. The only trouble is, he just might be too cute to eat! Good thing you can always build another…

As you know from lots of our previous projects, our family {especially Little Crafter and I} absolutely love to play with clay, so we also spent some quality time together creating our own Baymax figurines. Now we can use them to help us reenact parts of the movie and imagine new stories for our favorite hero!

“CLAYMAX” – Baymax Clay Figurines

Clay Baymax

You need:
White polymer clay
Black permanent marker
Foil lined baking sheet

Clay Baymax

Step 1: Roll a small ball of clay for the head and flatten it slightly into an oval shape. Set it aside.

Step 2: Roll a large clay oval for the body. Attach the head on top.

Step 3: Roll two small balls for the legs. Attach them to the bottom of the body and adjust until the figure can stand.

Step 4: Roll two hot dog shape pieces of clay for the arms. If you’re feeling ambitious, add a few slits to create the illusion of fingers.

If you want to make eyes out of clay like Little Crafter did, this would be the point where you’d want to do that and attach those too. I chose to wait until mine had baked, then draw them on with a marker.

Step 5: Bake on a foil lined baking sheet according to package instructions. Ours took 15 minutes at 275 degrees Farenheit.

Step 6: Draw on eyes using a black permanent marker.

Now you’ve got yourself a cute and lovable figurine of everyone’s favorite robot! If you want to have more fun with other characters from the movie, there’s all kinds of merchandise coming soon to a Walmart near you {and available online now} including vinyl figures, plush figures, the rocket fist, mask, and more!

Our family had a blast enjoying the movie and these activities together! Have you and your family seen the movie yet? What’s your favorite part?

  1. Those Claymaxes are too cute! This reminds me of when I do crafts with my niece, they always come out as two completely different interpretations, but priceless none the less! #client
