Christmas in July – Seashell Ornament

Hey, friends!  It’s the 25th, which means it’s officially Christmas in July!  I know some of you may be thinking, “nooooo!  Please don’t even start talking about Christmas right now!” while others of you are already itching to begin your holiday crafting.  I thought today I’d share with you an oldie but a goodie; a quick and easy craft that combines summer AND Christmas.  You can pick up the supplies while you’re enjoying your beach vacation, then bring them home and create a holiday keepsake later.

TIME REQUIRED: 5-10 minutes
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: super easy!
SPECIAL TOOLS/SKILLS: none

All you need is:
– sand and tiny shells from your favorite beach
– a clear plastic ornament {These are usually about $1 at craft stores around holiday time}
– ribbon
– cardstock
– marker
– glue

Just remove the topper and fill your ornament about 1/3 of the way with sand {I used a paper funnel to help control the mess}, then add in your shells.  Make sure you look for small ones because they have to fit through the hole at the top of the ornament!  Hot glue the topper back on.  The sand is heavy, so if you don’t secure the top, the weight may pull the ornament apart when it’s hanging on the tree.  Tie your ribbon around the top, and if you like, add a tag with the name of your favorite beach!

  1. The name of your beach caught my eye right off! I have lived in Myrtle Beach for almost 40 years and we love it here. I love the ornament and I plan to make some to send to my children since none of them live here any longer!!!
