All three members of the Artsy Family love warm weather and being outdoors!  But for me, Spring and Summer also come with an extra benefit.  You all know I’m not a chef, and when it comes to cooking things in the oven, hubby isn’t either.  Give him a grill, though, and he turns in to a cooking machine!  He loves to grill all kinds of delicious meals for us; everything from hamburgers and hot dogs to grilled garlic shrimp with fresh vegetables.  I love it, because I get a break from being on dinner duty every night, and his meals are absolutely delicious!  From time to time, he even tweaks or invents a recipe of his own.  Today, I thought I’d share one of those original recipes with you; Hubby’s Seasoned Steak Fries!

SEASONED STEAK FRIES

You’ll need:
– potatoes
– vegetable or olive oil
– salt and pepper
– Emeril’s Essence
– basting brush

Step 1: Bake or microwave potatoes until they’re cooked all the way through.

Step 2: Cut potatoes into wedges.

Step 3: Brush wedges lightly with vegetable oil.

Step 4: Sprinkle potato wedges with Emeril’s Essence, salt, and pepper to taste.  Spread seasoning evenly using brush.

Step 5: Place on grill over medium-hot coals for 4-5 minutes, covered.  Flip, and cook an additional 4-5 minutes, covered.

If you’re going to be grilling other things too, just move the potatoes to the sides to keep them warm while they finish.

Remove from grill and enjoy!

One of our favorite summer traditions is to have impromptu get-togethers with friends and family to enjoy our grilled dinners…after all, it’s so easy just to cut up a few more potatoes and throw a few more hot dogs on the grill!  Just this past Friday, we saw our good friends the Sichels at the Cross Walk we participated in, so we invited them to come over and join us for dinner.  They brought some ground beef and cheese, and hubby grilled up a delicious meal for us.

Of course, as with any meal, there’s clean-up to be done!  When you’re grilling, it seems like there’s always extra mess.  Your hands get dirty when you first make the charcoal pile, again if you’re handling raw meats, and then you have the mess of the grill, plates, and grilling utensils too.

We like to use Wet-Nap hand wipes for the tough clean-up jobs because they work well, smell great, and are anti-bacterial too.  I buy them at Walmart {hooray for everyday low prices!}, plus right now, you can get an extra $.55 off any Wet-Nap product with this coupon, while supplies last!

I like how multi-purpose they are for our clean-up tasks…hubby uses them outside to clean his hands and his grill mess, and we use them inside to clean off the table after the meal too.  I love that my friend Jess stepped right up and helped wipe down the tablecloth for us!  That what I call a good friend…the kind who stays and cleans up!

What are some of your favorite warm weather traditions?  Does your family enjoy grilling too?  How do you clean up your messes?

  1. What a great idea to have them around for messy meals! Just the other day when I was cleaning Lotte’s face I thought. “this was much easier when I had wipes in the house”. I think I need to grab a few to keep around! 🙂
