Boy Bedroom Reveal

Friends, as you know, we are beyond excited to be welcoming a new member to our family next month. “Scout,” as we have nicknamed him for privacy, is a ten-year-old boy from China and we have the amazing privilege of becoming his forever family through adoption. As you may have seen in other recent posts, we have been working hard to create a special bedroom for him, and it’s finally ready! Today, I want to give you a little tour…come on in! You can find links for the various furniture below the photos in case you want to grab something for yourself. {Some are sponsored or affiliate links, which means if you click and purchase, you’re helping support One Artsy Mama.}

We know that “Scout” loves to play soccer and that his favorite color is green, so I used those two things as the basis for how we would decorate. We found a bedding set that came with a comforter, sheets, pillowcases, and two shams that is just perfect! Fortunately, we already had a bed for when it was a guest room, so all we had to do was change the bedding to make it perfect for a little boy. We added a special soccer ball pillow too, just for fun. I created a “love you forever” printable {which you can grab for free and frame too!} to put on his dresser and a piece of lettered canvas art for over his bed.

The dresser is actually older than I am, and my parents just had it holding scarves and gloves in their basement. They were happy to donate it for their new grandson’s room, and I decided to give it an update by painting it green. A few coats of FolkArt paint and a coat of Mod Podge furniture sealer later it looks like a totally different piece! Speaking of paint, we gave the entire room a new look with some Glidden paint from Home Depot, which you can read about here.

Most of the furniture in the room was something we already had or were given, but we did need to purchase a night stand. I went to Wikibuy.com, which lets you browse items from various places like Amazon, Jet.com, major retailers, and more, and search for the best deals. I picked out this Winsome Wood Night Table because it was a good size, a reasonable price, and I like that it has storage space built in. I assembled it myself in less than fifteen minutes. Then, we added a cute soccer ball lamp and an alarm clock.

On the other side of the room, we needed to give “Scout” a place to hold books, toys, games, and all the random things little boys seem to collect. We brought this cube storage unit up from our basement and I searched Wikibuy for a good deal on green bins to match the room’s decor. I found an adorable panda poster that we framed and hung on the wall to remind him of home. I liked the two pandas together…I kind of think of them as Little Crafter and Scout.

Flynn is particularly fond of the organizer…apparently the cubes are the perfect cat size.

So far, we’re using it to store some books, a stuffie, and a special soccer patterned fleece blanket my mom made for him. By the time we return from China, I’m sure it will be holding much more!

As you may remember, the desk was a roadside find that a friend rescued for us, and the chair came from my parents. I refinished both and shared a tutorial…I love how they turned out! It’s the perfect place to do homework or create art! We also got a cute little soccer ball night light, which you can see plugged in under the window.

I hope you enjoyed your tour of the room! It has been so fun putting it together while thinking about him and what it’s going to be like to have him as part of our family. We will be sharing updates as we get closer to travel, and before you know it, you’ll be seeing pictures of our family of four! Thank you for following along in this exciting journey with us!
