Hand Lettering for Relaxation

Friends, after six months of hard work, followed by six more months of waiting, I can finally say that my book Hand Lettering for Relaxation is now available! It’s an interactive workbook with more than 45 individual workshops designed to teach a variety of lettering skills and to have fun in the process. Each workshop introduces a new topic…a font, a technique, or an embellishment, then has a featured design you’ll be creating. There’s a little motivational paragraph about whatever the topic of the quote might be, then step by step instructions for the skill you’re learning. Finally, you have plenty of practice space and a specific page with a hand drawn border that’s designated to be a place for you to create your finished design. You can find the book on Amazon.com, as well as online and in stores at Barnes & Noble, and Books a Million. Many local independent bookstores are stocking it on shelves too, and various other websites including Target.com. For international friends, Bookdepository.com offers free shipping.

On a personal note, I can’t tell you how much your support of this project means to me. I have dreamed of writing a book ever since I was in middle school. Even then, I imagined how it would feel to see something on the shelf with my name on the cover, and I have to say, there really are no words to describe it. You see, during those months of writing and illustrating, friends, I kept thinking of you. I thought about what you would want to learn, what ways I could explain things that would make sense to you, and how I could convey everything in a way that made you feel empowered and creative. I smiled as I drew some of the border pages, like the one with the donuts, because I knew you’d like them too. I imagined you curling up in a chair with your beverage of choice and the book, taking some much needed and much deserved “me time” to refresh your soul.

And now, to see your photos…to see your beautiful smiling faces, the book on your worktables, the things you’re beginning to letter, the sweet children who are stealing your books for their own practice…there are no words to express what that does in my heart. There are countless people out there who have written books and sent them off into the world, but I have something better. I get to send mine off into a community, a family. You all are the reason why I do what I do, and I couldn’t be more humbled and grateful.

Thank you, friends. Now, it’s your turn. Read, practice, create. Love those books well. Use them and show me what you make! If you enjoy it, which I hope you do, I’d love for you to leave a review on Amazon or Barnes and Noble’s website because that is one of the best ways to help spread the word to other creatives who are looking for something like this. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I have another book to write…

    1. Thank you so very much!! I am so glad to hear it, that’s exactly what I hoped for as I wrote it. If you have a chance, it would mean the world to me if you could post this same comment as an Amazon review of the book! Positive reviews like this one go so far in helping to give it a boost in the Amazon and Google search features. Thanks again!

  7. I am not an artistic person, is this a “starter” book? Also, what accessories do you suggest buying with the book (pens, paper, etc.)?
