Puttin’ On The Ritz: Roaring 20’s Party Desserts

What’s a party without food? Yesterday, I shared all about the decorations for our Roaring Twenties themed event; today I want to talk about the amazing desserts! Since the event was from 7-10, we opted to forego dinner and focus on having an assortment of delicious sweet treats for guests to enjoy when they weren’t on the dance floor.

Luckily for me, since I’m not much of a chef, I have a very good friend who’s got some incredible skills in the kitchen! We got together and brainstormed what kinds of desserts would be a good fit for the event.

We wanted to stick with our black, gold, and white theme as much as possible, and to have a good mixture of sweet and salty treats. Here’s what we came up with. Most of these were made by my friend Pinwheel, but I did help with some of the decorating…we’re all good at something.

Oreo Balls

You can use your favorite recipe for Oreo Balls, or for any kind of truffles, cake balls, etc. that you love. What we were concerned with was glamming them up by dipping them in black and white candy melts and sprinkling them with gold sugar. {That was my job.}

Celebration Sticks

Candy dipped pretzels are always a hit…this plate only had three left when the night was over. They’re also incredibly easy to make! We like to use these short pretzel sticks {UTZ Country Store Stix} but any kind of pretzel rods will do. All you have to do is melt black and white candy melts in a mug or jar, then dip the pretzels in. Sprinkle with gold sugar before the candy hardens, and ta-da!

Cream Cheese Squares

These were absolutely amazing…a croissant crust with magical cream cheese filling and a crusty sugary top. I have no idea what’s actually in them, but aren’t they pretty?

Peanut Butter Brownie Bites

This amazing treat was inspired by a brownie we had when we visited Hershey’s Chocolate World last month. There’s a brownie on the bottom, peanut butter icing on top, and crushed Reese’s cups along with peanut butter and chocolate chips. I can’t adequately describe just how delicious these are.

Peanut Butter Cookie Cups

These were made by my friend Fran, who starts with chocolate chip cookie dough in a mini muffin tin. Then, when the cookies are baked, you just remove the pan from the oven and immediately press a peanut butter cup into each one.

English Toffee

I saved the best for last…this toffee is beyond delicious, and I’m warning you now that it’s incredibly addictive. The full recipe is below; make it at your own risk!

English Toffee

Course: Dessert
Author: Amy Latta

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 6 oz milk chocolate chips
  • Optional: chopped pecans decorating sugar

Instructions

  • In a heavy 2 quart sauce pan mix together:
  • cup sugar
  • cup butter
  • /4 cup water
  • Stir constantly until mixture reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer.
  • Pour on to parchment (Make sure it is on a heat resistant surface). Spread out to 1/4 inch thickness. You'll need to work quickly because the mixture hardens fast!
  • Let mixture cool 3-4 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with 6 oz milk chocolate chips. Let the chocolate melt & then spread evenly over toffee.
  • Optional: Sprinkle with crushed pecans or decorating sugar.
  • Let cool completely (It usually takes about an hour in the refrigerator).
  • Break into bite size pieces.

We also had caramel corn in adorable little black bags tied with gold ribbon, chocolate covered cherries, peach cobbler, and more. I’m pretty sure no one left there hungry!

What do you think? Which of these desserts would you most enjoy?

Be sure to check out the 20’s themed decorations if you haven’t already, and come back soon for the best part, our photo booth, complete with some fabulous printable props!
