Goldfish Trail Mix

Do you ever feel like the kids in your life are growing up way too fast? I definitely felt that way as I watched Little Crafter get on the bus for his first day of 4th grade! How is he possibly that big already?

The school day starts incredibly early where we live; he gets on the bus at 7:15 AM! But the good news is that he’s home by 2:30. That gives us plenty of time not just for homework, but for a snack and some quality Mommy-Son time before hubby arrives. We can play games, read together, and of course Little Crafter can help create a special snack for himself.

Ever since he was 4 years old, LC has wanted to be a chef like his two uncles, and his dream is to one day own a restaurant at the beach that also has its own miniature golf course. So, it only makes sense to get him involved in creating recipes now, right? Here’s a tasty trail mix that is perfect for an after school snack and easy enough that the kiddos in your life can help make it too.

We started with Goldfish crackers, because they’re LC’s all time favorite snack food. Then we added a few sweet things and a few salty ones as well as even sneaking in a bit of fruit. Here’s how to make our Tasty Trail Mix!

Ingredients:

Cheddar Goldfish Crackers {we used Colors}
Pretzel Goldfish Crackers
Peanut Butter Chips
Chocolate Chips
Peanuts
Dried Cranberries
O-shaped cereal

Combine your ingredients in a bowl, mix, and enjoy!

See how simple it is! Here in the Artsy House, we don’t worry about measuring out the ingredients, we just put a little bit of each one until the mixture looks right. You can adjust it to have more or less of each ingredient, depending on your taste, and my favorite part is that you can make any size batch you want. If you like, you can whip up a giant batch that will last all week, or you can choose to make it one bowl at a time. It’s a major win-win for parents and kids!

Goldfish crackers are a favorite not just with Little Crafter, but with our neighbor kiddos as well, so it’s always a good idea to have enough on hand to feed the whole bus stop…after all, they always come home hungry and ready for a tasty snack!
