Every summer, our family enjoys vacationing in Myrtle Beach. All three of us absolutely love the scent of salt in the air, the view of the vast blue ocean, the feel of the sun on our faces and sand under our toes…does life get any better? It’s always incredibly hard to leave when our vacation is over, so we’re always looking for ways to bring a little bit of the beach back home to Maryland with us. One of our favorite beach activities is collecting unique and beautiful shells to use in various craft projects when we get back home. Most recently, we decided to use some shells to create a special photo frame that’s perfect for displaying a favorite vacation photo! This is such a fun project for kiddos to do, and it’s really easy too; here’s what you need to know.

You’ll need

an unfinished wooden frame
assorted colors of acrylic or multi surface paint
seashells
paintbrushes
glue

Creating your frame

Step 1: Paint or stain your frame.

You can choose any color{s} you like depending on the look you’re going for. A light brown will give you a sandy effect, blue will remind you of the ocean, or bright colors will go along with a fun, tropical feel.

Step 2: Paint your shells.

Younger kids might want to stick with painting the shells solid colors, while older children may enjoy painting patterns of all kinds! Paint pens work well for adding small details and more intricate designs. You can stay within a certain color palette if you want the frame to match a certain room in your home, or you can give your little crafters free reign to paint as they please. My little guy wanted to do shades of blue, especially metallics.

Step 3: Glue the shells to the frame.

Hot glue is the quickest way to do this, but if you want this to be  a totally child-friendly project, you’ll want to stick with a craft glue instead like we did.

Step 4: Add your favorite beach photo.

Cleaning up

If your family is anything like ours, you may find that your work space as well as your clothes and bodies might get messy during the creative process! It’s not at all uncommon for Little Crafter and I to find paint, glue, or glitter just about everywhere.

That’s why it’s important to have a laundry detergent we trust to clean up our toughest messes. Some folks love all®’s trusted stain fighting power because it can fight common kid stains like grass, mud, and grape juice. We, on the other hand, love that it contains in-wash pre-treaters for great stain removal of water based paints and other crafty messes. Plus, it’s easy on the budget, costing 30% less than the leading detergent brand.

Fresh Tropical Mist™is all®’s newest scent, and it brings the fresh feeling of the tropics home along with the same powerful clean you’ve come to trust and expect. The scent of tropical flowers makes me think of the beautiful, bright hibiscus plants that bloom everywhere in Myrtle Beach. If I close my eyes, I can almost hear the crash of the waves and feel the sand under my feet! Washing our clothing in this detergent is one more way to bring the beach to our own backyard. To find NEW fresh tropical mist in store near you, visit all®’s website and click Where to Buy. I found mine at a local Dollar General store along the back wall with all of the laundry products.
