Rolled Sugar Cookies

This time of year is the perfect time for baking all kinds of delicious cookies to share, right? I have to confess, I love just about every kind of cookie there is…I like to joke that my favorite kind is whatever kind is in my mouth at the moment. The truth is, though, my absolute favorite Christmas Cookie is the Vanilla Rolled Sugar Cookies my mom makes. Some of my earliest holiday memories are of watching my mom roll out the dough, then helping to cut out the shapes and decorate them with colored sugar before handing the trays to my dad to bake. Despite the fact that I’m grown with a family of my own, we still try to get together to make these cookies every year. Today, I want to share the recipe with you.

Although I love eating them myself, one of the best things to do with cookies is share them. I’ve told you all in the past about my favorite Christmas tradition; our Cookie Exchange with a Twist. For the past seven years, a group of our family and friends has baked dozens of different kinds of treats and gotten together to divide them up into containers that we give out in our community.

We take them to the local fire department, the workers at the library, the school janitors on night duty, and the Boy Scouts selling trees, as well as to shut-ins and unsuspecting teenagers working the Wendy’s drive-through. It’s so much fun to see the joy and surprise on their faces as we share our small gift with them.

When we all get together, we sit each kind of cookie out on the table and walk around filling plastic containers with some of everything.  Rubbermaid TakeAlongs come in a variety of convenient sizes and shapes that are just right for our cookie delivery mission, as well as for all kinds of other things like neighbor gifts, taking treats to share at school, and sending your friends home with delicious leftovers after a holiday meal.

We love to make and gift crinkle cookies, and do several cookie swaps each year. I’ll have to try this recipe for our next swap! #client

  2. YUM!!! A couple of weekends ago, my daughter and I made chocolate chip cookies and passed out tins filled with them for some of our neighbors!! It was so amazing how SHOCKED our neighbors were to get them from us …. most didn’t even want to open their doors to us … sad that the world is like that now …
