Baby Shower: The Food Table

If you’ve been following along this past week, you know that I co-hosted a baby shower for Erin last Saturday. I’ve shared the favors and some of the crafty activities we did; now I want to show you one of everyone’s favorite things, the food table!

As you know, I’m not much of a chef myself, so I was fortunate to split the planning duties with Erin’s second mom Sylvia, who prepared all of the tasty treats for us.  {Here she is with Erin!}

The shower wasn’t a surprise {it’s hard to pull that off for a lady with three kids already}, so we asked Erin if there was anything in particular she wanted. Erin told us anything would work; in fact, she was fine with just having cold cuts. We didn’t want to just order a giant sub, so we chose a menu of mini-sandwiches instead. That way Erin still got her sandwiches, but with a bit of a chic, upscale twist. Sylvia made handmade chicken salad with grapes and served it on croissants, as well as the cutest little cucumber tea sandwiches on white and pumpernickel bread. The real stand-out, though, was the sticky bun ham sandwiches. They were ham and swiss on King’s Hawaiian rolls with a homemade glaze and poppy seeds on top. I’m not exactly sure what was in that glaze {she promised to share the recipe with me…} but it was ah-mazing. I may have had more than one… They fit perfectly on my fun monogrammed serving tray from Shutterfly, and we labeled each kind so guests would know what their choices were.

For healthy snacks, we had veggies and dip, as well as this gorgeous layered fruit salad. It’s so easy to do, and the presentation is just gorgeous. You can use any combination of fruits you like; Sylvia chose watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, kiwi, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. Just layer them in a parfait dish and you instantly have a beautiful salad.

To satisfy the mama-to-be’s sweet tooth, we served a variety of homemade cupcakes. Erin requested Peppermint Chocolate {which were my favorite!!} and Chocolate Coconut. Sylvia also made a third kind for those who weren’t chocolate fans; French Vanilla with Chai Frosting. Yum! She didn’t stop there, though, we also got treated to hand-dipped chocolate covered pretzels.

The one thing Erin was pretty insistent upon was that she wanted sherbet punch to drink. In fact, I believe her statement was something like, “if you don’t have punch, I’m going to throw everything off the table, have a giant fit, and storm out.” Of course, she was joking, but we did our best to make sure that didn’t happen! We combined V8 Splash Raspberry Lemonade and Gingerale with a 1:1 ratio and added raspberry sherbet, then guests served themselves in mason jars, complete with little pink and white straws and lemon slices!

The final additions to the food table were tortilla chips and queso, and Sun Chips, per Erin’s request. All of the guests seemed to enjoy the menu, especially those ham sandwiches and cupcakes!

I also need to show you the gorgeous fresh flower arrangements Sylvia put together to go on the table as well as a few other spots around the house. How beautiful are they?!

I was really pleased with the way everything came together, and it seemed like Erin was too {I sure hope so}!
