Simple Chic Gift Packaging {and it’s inexpensive too}!

I have a confession to make. The only time I ever buy wrapping paper is the month before Christmas {or right after, if there’s an awesome sale on something I like}. It’s not really a conscious choice…I just don’t think about it, and then I end up scrambling at the last minute when I have a gift to wrap. I do save and reuse gift bags, but the fact that I had to give my dad his Father’s Day gift in a snowman bag because that and Ninja Turtles was all that we had left was a bit of a wake-up call. I’m the artsy mama, right? Time to come up with a better way to do this gift wrapping thing!

Here’s a super-easy, super-fast, and super-inexpensive way to wrap a gift that looks totally chic and on-purpose…unlike an leftover Olaf bag in summer. Take a look…

Materials: {some of mine were provided; all opinions are my own}.

Brown Paper Bag
Scissors
Tape
Twine/string of your choice
Vintage Chalkboard Labels from Bright Star Kids
Stabilo Chalk Pencil

This is so ridiculously easy…you’re going to love it. This morning, this “wrapping paper” was literally a paper grocery bag from the local store.

Step 1: All you have to do is cut the bag so it lays flat, then trim it and use it just like a sheet of storebought wrapping paper, with the printed side facing in, of course. Tape the ends in place.

Step 2: Tie a piece of string/twine around the package. I used white with gold because the metallic accents make it look elegant.

Step 3: Choose a label and stick it in the center of the package. Then, use the chalk pencil to write the recipient’s name.
Can I just say for a second that I LOVE THIS PENCIL?! It works just like chalk, but the sharp point makes it so easy to write fine lines and draw whatever you want! The point is soft though, so be careful not to press too hard.

After you write the name, feel free to embellish! I added dots and some curved lines to accent the shape of the label.

The final thing I added was a few fresh purple flowers from my garden to give it a pretty feminine touch.

My favorite thing about it {besides that it’s adorable} is that it’s not occasion-specific…wrapping like this works just as well for a birthday, a new baby, a new house, a graduation, or any celebration you can think of! What do you think? Would you wrap a gift this way?
