Holiday Tray

Hey, friends! I’ve got a festive decor project for you today that’s super quick and easy to make but looks really sophisticated on your table or mantle! If you, like me, are obsessed with all things gold this holiday season, I think you’re going to love it. No special skills or tools required, but your friends and family won’t believe you made it…take a look!

Believe it or not, I got all the main materials I needed for this Holiday Tray project at my local Staples.  {Thanks to Staples for sponsoring today’s post; all opinions are my own!} The tray and vase are actually a repurposed desk organizer and pen cup…pretty cool, huh? Here’s how I made it and you can too.

Poppin White Pen Cup
Scotch Gold Metallic Tape
Avery Mailing Seals, 1″ Gold

Before you begin, wipe off your tray and pen holder, because any dust or tiny pieces of things {like glitter!} will cause little bumps under the adhesive decorations.

Step 1: I’m a huge fan of anything polka dot, so I started by using the Avery Mailing Seals to create a pattern on the inside of the accessory tray. I placed them lightly at first in case I needed to move them. You can use any pattern you like or be totally random; I chose to do a row of three, followed by a row of two, and repeat until the tray was covered. I couldn’t believe how easy this was compared to other ways I’ve tried to make polka dots for various projects!

Once I knew I was happy with the positions of the circles, I pressed them down firmly.

Step 2: Use the gold letters to spell a word on the outer edge of the tray. I wanted my word to be on the right side, so I actually applied my letters starting with the last “E” and working backwards. If your tray is going to be placed in a spot where it can be seen from multiple angles, you can put words on the back too, or even all four sides. I chose to put “rejoice” on the front and “peace” on the back of mine. As a side note, these letters are very easy to peel off and re-position if you need to…ask me how I know!

Step 3: Apply Scotch Metallic tape around the top of the pen holder.

That’s it! Just three simple steps and you’ve got a really sophisticated looking piece of holiday decor that’s totally on trend with this season’s metallic accents! All that’s left to do is fill it with a few of your favorite things.

I grabbed a few holiday floral picks {glittery, of course}, some ornaments, and a pretty white candle holder and added them to my tray.

I absolutely love the way this turned out! Even hubby was impressed. And the best part is, it took me less than ten minutes to do. I love it when a project is affordable, quick, and easy, but it ends up looking like I paid top dollar for it at a fancy store. What are some of your favorite DIY Holiday Decor projects?
