Marbled Leaf Mobile

I live in a house where there are 3 boys, 2 of which are still in diapers, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. You can only imagine the types of messes that occur on a daily basis (or on second thought, don’t, because your results could be terrifying). A lot of our messes (diapers, highchair trays, dirty faces) are cleaned up with baby wipes. Seriously, we buy these things in bulk. I have packs of baby wipes in our living room, by the highchair, next to the changing tables, in my purse, in the diaper bags, in the car, pretty much everywhere you could think of. There’s a chance I might need an intervention. We are also knee deep (diaper deep… bottom deep?) in diaper rash battles at the moment (poor Squish), as well as continually dealing with Bam Bam’s epic eczema issues (he’s got SUPER sensitive skin). I am always on the lookout for a product that can be used daily in our fight against these skin problems. Enter WaterWipes.

WaterWipes are the only natural baby wipes on the market containing NO chemicals. Seriously. The only thing in these wipes are 99% water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. The wipes are perfect for all ages, from newborn all the way through adult, especially for those with skin issues like diaper rash and ezcema. In other words, I can use these wipes for every single little human in my house. Because of the multitude of uses for wipes in our house, I wanted to see how well  WaterWipes could fit into our lifestyle.

I first tried out the wipes with Squishy for his morning diaper change to help prevent diaper rash. He, and his bottom, approved.

There was also mealtime clean up, and the WaterWipes were perfect, because they weren’t over saturated with liquid, and got the job done.

While Squishy went down for his nap, it was time for some Preschool fun with my middle child, and we decided on the fun, but messy activity of shaving cream painting. The goal was to create a mobile perfect for fall decorating and celebrate the changing leaves. Here’s what we did.

Materials:

White Cardstock

Paint (We did red, yellow, and orange in honor of fall!)

Shallow dish

Straw (or anything skinny to swirl the colors)

Shaving Cream

Scissors

Spatula

Stick (from outside, because it’s cool. I mean, you could use a dowel too, but the stick gives a good rustic feel to the craft.)

Hole Punch

String (we used raffia because it was festive…and because it was all I could find.)

Optional-Laminator (I have a small home laminator. My husband gave it to me as a surprise romantic gift. Yes, I’m a craft nerd but the man knows the way to my heart.)

Steps 1-3: Gather materials. Layer in the shaving cream. Smooth it out with the spatula.

Steps 4-6: Squirt paint over the shaving cream and swirl with the straw. Put cardstock on top and gently pat. Pull up and place to the side and let it dry for a few minutes.

Step 8: Let your kid have a lot of fun playing with the shaving cream and get really messy. Use WaterWipes to clean him off when you’re done.

Step 9: Use WaterWipes to clean up the very messy tablecloth.

Step 10: Print out a leaf template, cut it out, and trace the images on your painted cardstock. Cut out the pretty, pretty marbled leaves.  Laminate if you’d like.

Step 11: Punch holes in the top of the leaves and use raffia, string, your dental floss, whatever, to tie it to a stick. Make sure to tie on a hanging string as well so you can hang your mobile! Hang and enjoy!

I always love crafting in the fall, because the colors provide such beautiful inspiration, and this craft with Bam Bam was no exception.

It was also such a great chance to give WaterWipes a try. I loved that I could use the WaterWipes on my baby, and feel confident about what I was putting on my baby’s skin, but then turn around and use them to help clean up my eczema-prone middle child, as well as wash up a very dirty crafty area. WaterWipes used to only be available online, but now, if you live in the states of CT, DC, DE, MA, MD(Holla MD!), NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA, or WV, you can grab them at your local Giant Eagle, Martin’s, Stop N Shop, or Giant Food! Yay for convenience! If you’d like more information on WaterWipes check out their Facebook or Twitter pages or head to the store and grab a pack to try!
