Bird Feeder with Wet Ones and Elmer’s

Thanks to Elmer’s for sponsoring today’s post as well as a very fun Pinterest contest.  All opinions, as always, are #honestly my own.

One of my favorite things about our home is that even though we’re in a development, we have a nice yard that backs up to a small wooded area instead of a bunch of other houses.  We enjoy the view of the trees as well as the birds who like to perch in them.  This summer, we decided to do a little upcycling with things we had around the house to make a little bird feeder for our backyard.  It’s a fun project to do with your little crafters; parts of it are perfect for them to do on their own, while other parts need to be done by an adult.  Take a look at how to make one of your own…

Step 1: Remove the cap from your canister.  Carefully use an X-Acto knife to cut a hole in the side of your canister.

Step 2: Spray the canister whatever color you like.  Be sure to follow the instructions on the can and let it dry between coats.

Step 3: Remove the plastic closure piece from the lid by cutting it off.  Spray the top of the lid and let it dry.

Step 4: Fold a piece of twine in half.  Thread both ends through the hole in the lid and tie a large knot.  This will be the hanger.

Step 5: Decorate!  We used Elmer’s Painters to write, “Welcome, Birds.” Then, we traced around the opening with Elmer’s glitter glue and added a few Board Mate stickers for a finishing touch.

The final step is to add bird seed for your feathered friends and hang it in a tree!  Once we were finished, it was time to clean up our work area {and ourselves} with some Wet Ones wipes!  We always have some on hand for our crafty messes.  They smell great and get the job done.
