Leather Wrap Charm Bracelet inspired by All You

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and All You Magazine, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #lifeforless https://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV.

I don’t know about you, friends, but one of my favorite ways to relax is to sit with my drink of choice and read a magazine.  I particularly love reading magazines that inspire me to create my next project, like the April issue of All You Magazine did.

There are a ton of great tips, recipes, and projects inside, including the super cute little egg chicks you see on the front cover, but what caught my eye first was the section about beauty and fashion.  There was a feature on Personalized Jewelry and one piece they showed was this leather wrap charm bracelet from Spartina 449.

As the caption pointed out, the leather is such a fun and fresh twist on the standard charm bracelet.  My first thought when I saw it was, “oooh, I want one!” Which was followed quickly by my second thought, “oooh, I bet I could make one!”

Leather Charm Bracelet

TIME REQUIRED: 10-15 minutes
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: easy, beginner
SPECIAL TOOLS: needle nose pliers
SPECIAL SKILLS: none

Fortunately for me, I already had all the supplies on hand that I needed, so I made it that same day.  Ah, the perks of being an artsy mama who recently got a shipment from my friends at Goody Beads.  If you don’t have the materials, though, they’re easy to order and you can have your own leather wrap charm bracelet in no time!

Materials:
5 mm leather, 16″ strip
Clasp for flat leather, 10 mm
Bar Slider for 10 mm flat leather
– jewelry glue
– small jump rings and one large jump ring
– assorted charms
– needle nose pliers
– scissors

Step 1: Cut your leather.  Measure your wrist to see how long your bracelet needs to be to fit you comfortably, then cut your leather into two pieces of that length.

Step 2: Apply jewelry glue to the end of each strip and place the strips inside one piece of your clasp.

Step 3: Slide the bar slider onto both pieces of leather from the end that doesn’t have a clasp yet.  Be sure not to skip this step or you’ll end up with nowhere to hook your charms.

Step 4: Re-measure and glue the other piece of your clasp in place.  Depending on the size of your clasp and how much space it takes up, you may want to trim your leather a bit more.  Play around with it to get it comfortable, then when you’re ready, glue the leather in place inside the clasp.

Step 5: Attach small jump rings to your assorted charms if they don’t have them already.  Place all of your charms on one larger jump ring, and attach that through the bottom of the metal slider.

There you have it!  Your bracelet is ready to wear!

The extra fun part is that you can always replace and switch your charms whenever you want.  I happened to have a ship’s wheel, a heart, a star, and my birthstone on hand, so that’s what I used, but there are all kinds of options out there.

You could also use 10 mm leather for this bracelet instead if you prefer a thicker look…I used 5 mm because it was what I had left over in my stash after making some of my other leather bracelets.

I’m really pleased with the way it turned out!  It literally cost me nothing since all the supplies were already in my jewelry stash, but even if you had to buy all the pieces, it would still be cheaper than the $45 original {which is just the bracelet, not the extra charms}.  I love myself a good DIY project, don’t you?!

Now, I’m excited to try out some of the other tips and projects in my April issue of All You Magazine.  Have you picked up your copy yet?  It’s on sale nationwide at Dollar General, Target, Safeway, Kroger, and Meijer stores.  And, I’ve got a coupon for you!  Print this out to save $1 on your purchase of the April issue while supplies last.

Oh, and one more thing!  Dollar General is offering one lucky reader a $50 Gift Card!!  Just think of all the goodies you could buy.  Good luck!
