Fashion Friday: Stitch Fix #7!

Hey, friends, it’s Friday and you know what that means…time to talk Fashion!  This week, I received my sixth Stitch Fix box and I wanted to show you what was inside.  I gave you a preview of several of the pieces on the One Artsy Mama Facebook page, and even got some great feedback from you about what to keep and what to send back.  Here’s a look at each piece and my final answers…

Coral Pomelo Wrenn V-Neck Jersey Top – $44
AND
Lasome Pacific Chevron Print Skirt – $38

sf6chevronandtop

Let’s start with the shirt.  I love coral.  I’m not sure I love coral on me.  And according to the comments on FB, many of you weren’t so sure either.  I was kind of indifferent about this one; I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it.  And when we’re talking $44, I need to love it.  I mean, let’s put it in perspective.  That’s 10 Starbucks drinks.  Which would I rather have?  I think you can answer that…  and so it goes back.

Now.  The skirt.  For starters, I love chevron.  I also love black and white.  I love midi-length skirts {which is what this is} because they cover up the part of my legs I don’t like and show off the part I do.  So, in theory, this should have been an “oh-my-gosh-I-love-this-and-refuse-to-take-it-off” piece.  But it wasn’t.  Partly because the waistband was just a teeny weeny bit tight {I blame the skirt.  No way it’s the lattes}.  And partly because I think the stripes are just too big for me.  I had several people comment on Facebook that the skirt makes me look bigger than I actually am.  That right there sealed the deal.  NOBODY wants a piece of clothing that makes her look bigger than she is, am I right?  Ain’t nobody got time for that.  Back it goes.

Mystree Linea Colorblocked Swing Dress – $68

sf6dress

I was massively disappointed in this dress.  There, I said it.  Sorry, Stitch Fix.  Usually when Laurie sneaks a dress in my Fix, it’s a major winner, but not this one.  Here’s why.  First of all, the material was very thin, and very clingy.  I could see my {nude colored} bra through the white part of the top.  But the bigger problem was that it was basically like a junior’s cut…it was way shorter than I like {remember, I like to hide those thick dancer’s thighs}, and it clung to me in all the wrong places, including the mommy pooch that I specifically shop for clothing to hide.  Maybe I’d have loved this dress when I was 18, but not at, *ahem* the age I am now.  Plus, I think there’s absolutely no reason it costs $68.  Are you kidding me?  I could get something similar if I wanted it, which I don’t, at a local box store for about $16.99.  I think you know where this is going…

41Hawthorn Benson 3/4 Ruched Sleeve Blazer, Navy – $78

sf6blazer

This was one of the hardest decisions I had to make.  Because look at it.  It’s adorable.  It fits well, the stripes on the sleeves are unique and fun, and even though you can’t tell, the fabric is soft and high quality.  I love everything they’ve ever sent me from 41Hawthorn.  But.  $78.  Ugh.  Can I really justify $80?  {Remember, people, that’s 20 trips to Starbucks, or a new Lego set for LC, or two nice dinners out with hubs}.  I really liked it, but the price tag was a little steep, especially since I don’t wear much navy.  And it’s not like I really *need* another jacket.  I mean, between my absolute favorite DKNY leather jacket, my denim jacket, my other Stitch Fix blazer, and my grey and black moto jackets, I’m set.  So, with a sigh, I sent it back.  It hurt a little, it really did, but I think it was the right decision.

Turquoise Peach Love Cream Minerva Geo Print Peplum Blouse – $28

sfpeplumcollageI saved this one for last because it was the most controversial piece in the box, based on Facebook feedback!  Let me start by saying that when I first saw it, I was unsure about the pattern, but when I tried it on I actually liked it.  The fabric is really soft, flowy, and comfortable, the cut is flattering, and the colors are great.  Some of you agreed.  Some of you didn’t.  Some of you reeeally didn’t.  And that’s ok!  There’s no accounting for taste…after all, some of you loved the owl sweater from last month, whereas my first reaction to it was, “Heck to the no!” It’s ok that we all like different things, that’s what makes the world go ’round, right?  Well, not technically, but you get the point.  I did experiment after reading all the feedback and tried pairing the shirt with a neutral cardigan to see how that looked.

I liked that even better.  There’s enough of the print to be fun, but it’s not quite as overwhelming for those of you who were pattern-haters…lol.  I also added a pretty turquoise headband that was a gift from my friends at France Luxe, and I like that too.

Also, the price was right on this one.  And here was my situation.  If I didn’t keep anything, I lost my $20, like what happened with Fix #5.  No fun!  I also had a $25 referral credit, which covered the styling fee plus $5.  So, if I kept this shirt, it cost me a grand total of $3.  Yep.  A $3 shirt it is.  Sorry for those of you who weren’t fans of it…hope you like it better with the cardi and that you don’t run away if you see me wearing it on the street.

Overall, this fix wasn’t my favorite.  It was missing that one LOVE piece, you know?  The one you can’t imagine sending back because it’s the perfect style and fit and color for you…like my green dress, my red dress, my striped blazer, and my black peplum top have been.  But, I did get a $3 shirt, so I guess that’s a win, right?

  1. I was unsure about this top when you posted on FB but looking at it on you again, it really looks great! Plus I love the way it looks with the sweater. It looks more casual paired that way and without a sweater it can definitely be dressed up. Looks like a overall versatile piece which in my book is a great thing!

Can you give me any tips to starting up with Stitch Fix? I have set up my profile but haven’t ordered a fix yet because I am hesitant that they will actually send me pieces that I like and that feel good on my post baby bod.

    1. Thanks, Diana! 🙂 I’d say that your best bet is first of all to be super specific in your instructions about what you want. Besides filling out everything they ask you, make notes, like “I like my skirts to be at least knee length” or “I like loose fitting tops that conceal my post-baby tummy” or whatever it is you want them to consider. Also, start a pin board on Pinterest if you don’t already have one and pin some outfits and clothing you really like and you think would match your style. They will look at it and take that into consideration too; that’s why Laurie often sends me fit and flare style dresses; that’s what I pin. If you can upload a pic or two of yourself in something you love to your pinboard that helps too because the stylist can actually see your body and how you wear things. Hope that helps!!

  2. You made a great choice!! That shirt is fun and DIFFERENT and that is the point (I feel of SF) is to try things you never would have before!

Sending that blazer back would have hurt my soul a little too! But for that price…….

  3. I think the choices you made were spot on! The navy jacket is probably 2-3 inches too long for your torso. BUT I think you should wear more navy! It looks great on you.
