Mod Podge “Dream” Necklace
Hey, friends! You may remember that as soon as I got back from the CHA {Craft & Hobby Assn.} Mega Show, I couldn’t wait to tell you all about some of the fun new products Plaid is releasing this year. Today, I want to show you one more; Faceted Podgeable Shapes! You may have seen {and played with} the regular, flat Podgeable Shapes in the past, like I did when I made my “definition of a Mother” necklace. These new shapes are similar, but I actually love them even more for jewelry making! The faceted edges add elegance and dimension, don’t you think? Take a look…
DREAM NECKLACE
One of the great things about the Podgeable Shapes is that you can use them with anything! You could make a charm from a dictionary definition, a photo, sheet music, scrapbook paper, or pretty much any other paper you like. For my necklace, I used some of the things found in the Antiqued Urban Podgeable Papers. I like the way they have coordinating designs, some of which are already sized to fit the shapes, and they allow you to create your own little design. Here’s what I used:
Materials:
{disclosure: my papers, shapes, and Mod Podge were provided by Plaid Crafts}
– Antiqued Urban Podgeable Papers
– Faceted Podgeable Shapes
– Mod Podge Gloss
– scissors
– toothpick
– jump ring and chain
– jewelry pliers
Step 1: First, I cut the circle that I wanted to use as the background of my pendant. It was already sized to fit my shape perfectly, yay! Then I cut out the word “dream,” and carefully cut around a small butterfly. I didn’t worry about getting everything perfect because I wanted it to have a handmade, scrapbooked look.
Step 2: I used a small amount of Mod Podge to adhere my word and butterfly onto the background. Don’t overdo it with the Mod Podge here; everything will get adhered to the shape in the next step, so as long as you use just enough to stick everything in place, you’re good. I have to tell you it was super tempting for me to add glitter at this stage, but it just didn’t seem to jive with the antiquey-vintage feel of the design, so I refrained.
Step 3: Spread a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the flat side of the shape and adhere your design. I also like to spread a thin layer on the back of the design as well to seal the paper and protect it from damage.
Step 4: Poke a toothpick through the hole to pierce the paper. Then, add a jump ring and chain.
That’s all there is to it! Just a few minutes, a few supplies, and you have a one of a kind pendant that’s sure to make a statement wherever you go.
Hugs & Glitter,
That looks really easy! My hubby said I need to stop reading your blog, because everytime I do I end up going to Micheals to get the supplies! Lol
