Cactus Craft for Kids

Did you all enjoy that fun roundup of activities and crafts for Kids, Teens, and In-Betweens yesterday?  Today, I have one more easy kiddo craft idea to share with you that is super-inexpensive and just plain adorable!  Little Crafter and I recently participated in a Vacation Bible School with a Western theme, and this is one of the crafts the kids made during the week…check it out!

Spaghetti and Styrofoam Cactus

Seriously.  How cute is that?  Here’s what you need to make your own:

Materials:
terracotta pot {ours is a small one}
styrafoam ball that fits into the pot
green spray paint
uncooked spaghetti noodles
artificial flowers
raffia or ribbon

Step 1: Spray paint the styrafoam ball green.  You’ll want to do this a day or two prior to actually making the craft so it has time to dry completely.

Step 2: Break uncooked spaghetti noodles into small pieces and push them into the ball to create the cactus needles.

Step 3: Attach a flower or two.  We used a skewer to poke a slightly larger hole and just placed the flower down inside the hole, but you could also glue the flowers in place.

Step 4: Place ball in pot.  Tie raffia or ribbon around pot for decoration.

If you really want to get fancy, you could paint or otherwise decorate the pot beforehand.  Not required, and obviously they didn’t have time to do that in VBS, but at home, anything goes!

There you have it!  I know cacti are famous for not needing a lot of water to survive; here’s one I guarantee you’ll never have to water!  It’ll look just this cute forever.  What do you think?  Are you ready for a little piece of the wild West?
