Styled by Tori Spelling Jewelry: Easy as 1-2-3!

Who loves jewelry?  You all know I sure do!  And even more fun than buying it is making it yourself!  I’m constantly getting comments from readers who are interested in making their own bling, but don’t know where to start or are intimidated by the tools and techniques.  Honestly, it’s not nearly as difficult as it seems. And today, I’ve got an extra-special treat for you, especially all the novices out there who have been afraid to try your hand at it…I’m going to show you a great way to start that requires NO tools and NO special skills.  It’s literally as easy as 1-2-3.

Ready?

It’s called the Styled by Tori Spelling jewelry line, and you can get it at exclusively at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores.  I recently got to sample a bunch of the pieces from Tori’s new line {yes, I have the best job in the world!} and I couldn’t believe how simple it was to create amazing statement pieces in thirty seconds or less.

Here’s how it works.  We’re going to start by making a necklace.
You need three pieces:
1. A chain
2. A necklace bottom
3. Connectors

Based on their style, the various products are labeled as part of a particular collection: Glitz, Glam, Boho, and Noir so that you can easily choose pieces that coordinate well.  Or, you can always feel free to mix and match to create whatever look you like!  For my necklace, I chose pieces from the Glitz line.  The hardest decision was choosing which connectors I wanted; the circles or the ovals.

I chose to go with the circles, but the great news is that I can {very} easily swap them whenever I feel like it to create a slightly different look!  Now here comes the fun part.  You open the connectors {some work like jump rings and you can use pliers to open them, but most of them just require you to push with your finger, and voilá!}.

Then, you slide the jump rings on the necklace chain and necklace bottom onto the connectors.

That’s. it.  Seriously!  That’s all there is to it!  Now you have a completed necklace that’s ready to wear!  If you want to jazz it up a bit further, you can add one of the pendants or danglers at this point by simply sliding it onto one of the connectors as well, but I liked the look of mine as is.

Best part?  You can swap out the pieces whenever you want!  Feel like a different necklace bottom? Just pop this one off and put that one on!  Want a different chain?  Switch it!  New connectors?  No problem!  You can mix and match and then mix and match some more and get tons of great looks for way less moola than buying that many pre-made necklaces!  Win?  Yes, I think so!

Now, let’s look at how easy it is to make your own statement earrings!  Remember how the necklace was as easy as 1-2-3?  The earrings are as easy as 1-2!  Ready?
You need:
1. Danglers
2. Earring Findings

I’m not usually a “gold person;” all of my jewelry except my wedding rings is either silver or white gold, but for some reason I really love these black and gold leaves!  Wouldn’t they be fun with a Little Black Dress?

Ok, here comes the “hard” part…don’t get too intimidated on me now…
You open the earring finding.

Then you slide the dangler on.

Really.  That’s it.  Shocking, isn’t it?  And now they’re all ready to wear!

My good buddy Christina asked me if I felt like it was cheating, and my response is, “Since when does easy equal cheating?”  I’m a busy mama!  I’ll take whatever quick, cheap, and easy projects I can get my hands on, know what I’m saying?

Meanwhile, I know those of you reading fall into one of two categories.  Some of you, the novices, are thinking, “Yes!  I can do that!  Easy-peasy!”  Others of you, the ones with a pile of jewelry tools and an overflowing bead box, are thinking “but, but, but…I want to customize!  I want to play with my tools and make something totally unique!

Never fear, my friends.  You can.  Yes, Tori has done the design work for you.  But just like any jewelry pieces, these are made of the same stuff.  Jump rings, beads, and findings.  Want to do something different?  Take it apart and put it back together again in a way that you love.  For example.  I am in love with the gorgeous Glitz Rhinestone Teardrop danglers.  But they’re too long for me.  I’m a petite mama, and when I tried putting one on as is, it totally overpowered me.  BUT, just by opening that little jump ring at the top, I can slide off the others and leave myself with a very understated {and still totally glamorous} teardrop earring!

In fact, depending on how long I want the earring to be, I can choose which jump rings to open and slide off the ones I don’t want.  In the meantime, I have a bunch of the teardrops left over that I can use to make earrings for friends, or turn into a necklace.  Pretty sweet.

I’m telling you, this is the absolute easiest way to get your toes wet making your own jewelry.  And I’m not saying that just because I’ve had a little celebrity crush on Tori ever since she featured my St. Patty’s Day cereal rainbow on her blog {and made it with her kids!!}… You can’t go wrong!  The pieces in the collection range from $3.99-$14.99, so they’re totally affordable too.  What do you think?   Which collection goes best with your personal style?

Now, here’s the best news for you…I get to offer you a giveaway for a goody box full of $75 worth of Styled by Tori Spelling Product!  The lucky winner will receive an assortment of danglers, necklace chains and bottoms, connectors, and other supplies much like the box I got to play with!

Rafflecopter will walk you through the entry process; good luck, friends!!
