Natural Look for Summer with Rimmel Makeup

Hey there, friends!  As most of you know, the Artsy Family recently took our annual vacation to Myrtle Beach!  One of the trickiest style problems I always have at the beach is getting the right makeup look.  I mean, layers of cosmetics and dark or super-bright colors just look strange when you’re building sand castles and jumping in the waves, or even playing mini-golf around town.  But, I do like to look “put together” and to even out my skin tone while highlighting my natural features.  So, I decided to play around with the latest summer makeup trend and come up with a new natural look using a few Rimmel products I picked up at Walmart.

My current makeup was more in the purple color family, but I wanted something much more neutral, so I picked out a few items…at just $3.97 each it was totally affordable to grab several new things!  In fact, I was able to create a whole new look for less than $30!  Here’s what I got:

Clean Finish Foundation: Soft Ivory 220

Glam’ Eyes Quad Eyeshadow: 018 Romantic Cool

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate lipstick: 10

Rimmel Natural Bronzer: 021 Sun Light

Rimmel Stay Glossy Lip Gloss: 230 Here to Stay

Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner

Now, here’s a look at how I used these products to create my “Go Nude” beach look!

First things first, here I am sans makeup and ready to get started.

My first job was to apply the Clean Finish foundation.  I love that it has SPF 15 sun protection.  In fact, that’s why I chose it over the Clean Finish matte foundations.  I refuse to let the sun touch my face even on an ordinary day since I’m so prone to moles, so especially at the beach I like to use cosmetics that include SPF if I can.  Notice how it’s not heavy looking or even very noticeable at all, but it evens out my skin tone as compared to the non-makeup photo?

Next, it was time to tackle my “beach eyes”!  I wanted to go as “nude” and neutral as possible, so I chose the three shades of eye shadow you see labeled below. They also remind me of the sand and surf…yay!

I began by applying the white shadow over the entire lid and all the way up to the brow.  Then, I used the darker shade of brown on the eyelid itself, and accented with the lighter shade in the crease and corner.  I didn’t use the Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner when I was going out on the beach or to the pool just because I wanted a really light and natural look, but it looks great when I’m going out on the town.

Because I’m used to a heavier makeup look, I was initially tempted to try and layer more color on to make it darker, but I kept reminding myself that the point was to look natural yet polished.  So, I moved on to bronzer!  I have been using Rimmel bronzer for years now and am so pleased with it.  I lightly dust it on my forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin for a tanned-looking glow.

I finished the look with my absolute favorite of the new products, the Stay Glossy Lip Gloss.  I’ve been on a search for the perfect lip gloss for the last year or so, ever since my old favorite got discontinued, and I finally found it with this!  Natural but with a great shine and a great feel.

I intended to have the hubby take some photos of the complete look after I dried my hair, but, well, it was vacation and I was having fun so I forgot.  I do have this picture from dinner that night; I was rather excited about my individual challah roll from the Bagel Factory.

The next day, I recreated the same look again, and this time I remembered to get photos for you.  I really wanted the beach in the background, but the wind made my hair go crazy and the sun was so bright I had to wear my sunglasses…so instead, you get to see the hotel’s wallpaper.  Lucky you.

Typically, hubby isn’t the most observant person in the world, so I was surprised when he kept commenting all throughout the first day how pretty he thought I looked.  He finally asked me if I had done something different, and I told him I’d been playing with the new makeup I bought.  His response?  “Well then you should throw out all your old stuff and just use this all the time because you look really good.”  Duly noted.

I recreated my natural beach look almost every day, but there was one particular outfit with a great retro feel that just demanded the red lipstick I couldn’t help picking up {I mean, come on, friends!  It was $3.97!}.  I swapped out the brown eyeshadow for the grey, and applied the Lasting Finish by Kate lipstick that really does stay put for hours!  See what I mean?  The outfit made me do it!

  1. Amy, you look great! You did a great job creating a beachy look. It’s soo different from your profile picture which looks more professional. You look great no matter what! Even WITHOUT makeup! Plus, I think you’re really brave to share a no makeup picture!

  2. I love Rimmell. They used to have a lipstick color that was the exact match of a Bobbie Brown that me and my friends used to buy. It’s always fun to play with new makeup!!
