Happy Father’s Day: A Photo Project

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there who happen to read One Artsy Mama {all two of you!}.

Today is a special day to celebrate how important fathers are and what a special role they play in our lives.  I want to give a shout-out to my dad, the source of my sense of humor, my germaphobia, and my love of ice cream, and thank him for always giving the best advice in the world!  I love you, Dad!  I also want to give props to my hubby, who is an amazing father to Little Crafter day in and day out.  Dan, I truly hope that he grows up to be the same kind of honest, loving, man of integrity that you are!

You all know about the first gift I made for hubby {I also made the same thing for my dad using a different photo}, but today I wanted to show you the other project Little Crafter and I worked on together for him.

Here it is:

Here’s a quick rundown of how I did it, and you can too!

Materials:

– wooden sign {mine is 4×12″}

– three wooden clothespins

– acrylic paint and brush

– Mod Podge

– washi tape

– photo prints {mine were provided by Shutterfly}

– hot glue

– twine, scissors

– adhesive vinyl, cutting machine {optional}

Step 1: Paint your sign.  You may need to let it dry and give it a second coat.  Little Crafter was happy to do this part!

Step 2: While the sign dries, paint the tops of your clothespins white.  This makes it look better when you adhere the washi tape.

Step 3: When paint is dry, apply washi tape to each clothespin and trim off the excess.

Step 4: Paint a coat of Mod Podge over the entire sign, as well as the top of each clothespin to seal the tape in place.

Step 5: When Mod Podge is thoroughly dry, hot glue your clothespins to the sign, evenly spaced.  My sign was 12″ long, so I placed a tape measure across it and glued the clothespins at 2″, 6″, and 10″.  Make sure you space them at least 4″ apart so that your photos will fit next to each other.

Step 6: Attach a piece of twine or ribbon as a hanger.  I chose twine because I thought it looked the most manly and hot glued it to the back of the sign.

Step 7: This part is optional; I chose to use my Silhouette Cameo {ah, Cammie!} to cut the words “Daddy’s Little Man” from adhesive vinyl, then used transfer tape to help me attach it to the sign.

If you don’t have a cutting machine {sad times}, you can either get alphabet stickers, paint the letters, or cut letters from a magazine and Mod Podge them on like a collage.  {And you can watch my blog for the next Silhouette promotion, at which time you can get you a Cammie!}

All done!  The only thing that’s left is to choose your photos and clip them on!  I ordered mine as prints from Shutterfly, and I loved the quality of them.

One thing I really like about this project is that it’s so easy to change the photos anytime you want!  So, it’s a gift that keeps on giving and can be used for years to come!  I can imagine years down the road watching hubby clip in photos from LC’s black belt test or his high school graduation.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the project, and I hope even more that hubby does too!  Hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating the dads in your lives and making them feel extra-special.

Hugs & Glitter,

Looksi and Shutterfly have invited me to participate in a creative brand collaboration.  I have been provided with product compensation for this post, but all opinions are my own.

  1. That’s a super cute idea! I love being able to display multiple photos. Many times, I’ll have several of the kiddos and just pick one but this is a nice option.

  2. I love this Amy!! I am putting this on my list of things to make for next years Father’s Day presents. This year I was a total slacker and didn’t make anything, but next year I am going to make up for it! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!!

  3. Amy, there you go, using your Silhouette again! I’ve been saving up so I just may finally purchase one if there’s another promo in July! 😉

    I LOVE this project!
