DIY Photo Wrapped Canvas

Friends, I can’t wait to show you one of the things I made hubby for Father’s Day!  {Here’s hoping he behaves and doesn’t come peek!}  I am crazy-excited about this!  Here it is…

Yup, you read that right.  A gorgeous wrapped photo canvas you make yourself at home!

Here’s how it all started.  Before we left for vacation, I got an email asking me if I’d like to review some fun products.  I get emails like that pretty regularly {one of the best perks of the job!}, but more often than not, the product isn’t a good fit for my family and you guys, so I don’t accept.  But this time, one of the products in question was these Do-It-Yourself Photo Canvas Wraps from YouFrame.  I was totally intrigued, although I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical about how they might turn out.  When we returned from Myrtle Beach, the package was waiting for me.

I happened to get an amazing photo of Little Crafter and his daddy on the beach while we were away, and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to test out the product and make a Father’s Day gift at the same time!
The kit included enough materials to make three canvases:
– 3 8.5×11″ canvas texture photo sheets
– 3 DIY Gallery Wrap Frames
– 3 detachable desk stands
– adhesive tape
Here’s how easy it was to do –
STEP 1: Print out the photo.  I cropped it to 8.5 x 11″ and adjusted the brightness and contrast in my photo editor first.  Then, I printed it on my inkjet printer using the highest quality setting and borderless printing.  I was nervous that it wouldn’t turn out well on the canvas texture, but that fear was totally unfounded.  It printed out beautifully…I just love this photo!
STEP 2: Apply adhesive tape to all 4 sides of the frame.  I followed the package directions, then peeled off the backing.

STEP 3: Center frame on photo and press firmly to adhere.

STEP 4: Make a diagonal cut in each corner and fold edges over onto adhesive.

STEP 5: Fold edges together and latch in place.  I’ll admit this was the scariest step for me.  I was afraid that either the canvas would rip when I tried folding up the sides, or that it wouldn’t be taut enough to look good.  Surprise!  It worked just the way it promised.  The canvas looks just as tight as a professional one, and there were no rips, tears, bumps, or bubbles.

I love the wrapped look; you can see how the photo continues to the edges of the frame.  I added the desk stand to the back so that hubby can display it on his desk at work, but you can easily remove it and hang it on the wall too!

I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out!  I honestly thought it would be mediocre at best, and instead, I ended up with a gorgeous gift that looks professional {and expensive}!
Now, I have the fun job of deciding how I’m going to use the other two…I’m thinking of making one for my dad and one for my father-in-law for Father’s Day, but then again, I’d like to have a few more of our beach photos to keep for myself!  What to do, what to do…
If you’re interested in trying out these frames yourself, you can find them at Office Max stores, select Staples stores and online, and BJ’s Wholesale Clubs.  You can find out more on the YouFrame Facebook page too.
I’m so excited to give this to hubby…now the hard part is waiting!  Maybe he deserves an early present for being such a fabulous daddy!
Hugs & Glitter,
Disclosure: I received my Canvas Wraps Kit for free, but all opinions are 100% my own and I would definitely purchase them myself!

  1. Awesome! I wonder if they make larger kits. We had family portraits done last summer and I’d love to do some canvas wraps but for my big wall, I need at least 11×14… I’ll have to check them out. Thanks Amy! Great picture 🙂
