Happy Mother’s Day!

This one’s for all my homegirls…lol.  I have something to say to each one of you, so whether you’re a momma or not, keep on reading.

First, to all the moms out there.  No matter whether your children are infants, toddlers, teenagers, or all grown up, you deserve more than a round of applause today.  You deserve to be appreciated, pampered, and given the royal treatment because on every other day you give, love, and sacrifice like no other.  You know the real meaning of 24/7.  You put the needs of others before yourself.  You are an example of generosity.  You are tired.  You play games you don’t want to play, pick up after everyone, and do things no one but you {and God} ever notice.  THANK YOU for all that you do.  You are creating a legacy of love and the work you do with your children is an investment in the future.  Don’t feel guilty for the things you don’t or can’t do; you are doing an awesome job.

Next, to those who long to be mothers.  I know how you feel.  We struggled to conceive Little Crafter and there were many times I wondered if we would ever have a child.  It’s a terrible feeling.  Or perhaps you’re single and wondering if you’ll ever meet the right man to marry and start a family with.  I’ve been there too.  Remember that you’re not alone.  Remember that a bone that has been broken and heals correctly is stronger than one that was never broken at all.  Just like you.  May you find healing and peace and come through your struggle stronger than ever before.

To those who have lost a mother.  I cannot imagine your pain and sorrow today.  My heart aches for you.  My sweet bestie Erin is in this group today, grieving as she spends her first Mother’s Day without being able to hug her mom around the neck and hear the words, “I love you.”  It sucks.  There’s nothing adequate I can say or do to take your pain away.  But I pray that today will be a day filled with good and loving memories for you as you honor the woman that your mother was and the ways she’s made you into the woman you are today.  Now, put your right hand on your left shoulder, your left hand on your right shoulder, and squeeze.  A hug from me to you.

{Erin, I miss her too.}

To those who have lost a child.  Again, I cannot put myself in your shoes.  If I even try to imagine it, I have to stop myself before I’m overcome with grief at the very thought of it.  Yours is a heartache above all others, I believe.  I am so, so sorry for your loss.  Remember that somehow, some way, you can use your experience to become stronger, to help another person, to bless someone else; that is your “glitter lining.” In the midst of your sorrow, may you find peace, strength, and healing.  You are loved.

To those with a painful childhood.  I am so sorry that your mother didn’t give you what you needed.  I’m sorry that you come from a place of brokenness and hurt.  Today, instead of focusing on what you didn’t have, spend time focusing on the women in your life who have guided, loved, encouraged, and inspired you.  Celebrate those who took on the role of “mom” and stepped into your life as aunts, grandmothers, teachers, friends, mentors…  Focus on the ways they have helped to shape you into who you are today.

To all of us: mothers, daughters, sisters, friends…YOU ARE AWESOME.

YOU ARE COOL!
YOU ARE STRONG {and sometimes you might feel like kicking someone in the head}…

YOU ARE SWEET!
Sometimes you might want to hide…
…but you are capable of great things!
Happy Mother’s Day to you all; may you have a day filled with joy, hugs, and glitter!

  1. What a sweet post 🙂 Unfortunately, I’m in the club with your friend Erin. It’s been 23 years since I lost her (to the day) and it still feels like a punch in the gut every year.

    Happy Mother’s Day to you 🙂

  2. My mother passed away 21 years ago, 4 days before Mother’s Day, and I have a lot of trouble handling Mother’s Day as a result. However, my husband, son, daughter, and I come together to get each other through that day with love and good memories.
    Thank you so much for your exceptionally kind words and encouragement on all levels of motherhood. I hope your Mother’s Day was blessed and awesome!
