Layered Button Necklace

Hi, friends!  Today I have a fun and super-simple project for you!  You only need two buttons, and it will take about five minutes to make this stylish statement necklace!  Mine features one of my all-time favorite buttons, the “Carlos,” but you could use any two buttons you like, as long as their sizes and colors compliment each other!  Here’s how I did it and you can too!
Materials:
– two coordinating buttons
– 24 gauge wire {or thinner}
– jewelry bail
– E6000 or other jewelry glue
– ball chain
– wire cutters
Specific Buttons I used:
– “Carlos” {1, 15  mm}…I had this left from my Button Votive project!
– “Palmira” {1, 28 mm}
This necklace is incredibly simple to make and doesn’t require any special jewelry making tools or skills…anyone can do it!

STEP 1: Place your smaller button on top of the larger button.  Thread wire through the holes of both buttons.

STEP 2: Turn buttons over and twist wire tightly to secure.  Trim ends and tuck into one of the holes to hide sharp edges.

STEP 3: Glue a jewelry bail to the back of the large button and let it dry completely.

STEP 4: Cut ball chain {or other chain} to your desired length.  I usually go with 18″.  Thread it through the bail and add closure piece.

What do you think?  Isn’t it a fun piece of statement jewelry?  I can’t wait to wear it with some Springtime outfits!
Hugs & Glitter,

  1. That is so cute. I have made jewelry with my daughter but I learned a couple of new things reading your tute. Like what a jewelry ball is and also that there is jewelry glue. i know….duh. I think I might try this with some vintage buttons. Wouldn’t that be cute? Thanks for posting the tutorial. Visiting from It’s Overflowing. Blessings!
