It contained 14 plaster magnets, each one a different shape, 10 different colors of paint, 2 paint brushes, and instructions written in kid-friendly language. Little Crafter couldn't wait to dig in!
Two minutes after we'd unpacked the box, literally, we got started painting! LC put on his smock, I covered the table with a plastic tablecloth I had in the cabinet, and he went to town.
I just love to watch him when he's at work on a project like this...he gets so focused and he's just so darn cute!! He painted all 14 magnets in one sitting and wanted more. Since we don't really have room on the fridge to keep them all, I suggested that he make some of them for people he loves. The rainbow went to Grandma, the sunshine is Pop-Pop's, the star is for Mom-Mom, the racecar is for Poppy, and the flower is for Grammy. He's still thinking about who he wants to give some of the others to.
I was lucky enough to get two of them; one with three hearts, and this one, which was my very favorite. He made me close my eyes while he painted it, and then surprised me with his masterpiece. I just love it!
The green rocketship is Daddy's, and he kept the cupcake for himself.
This one simple kit brought him literally hours of enjoyment, not to mention how excited he gets every time he looks at the fridge. He keeps asking us, "How much do you love your magnet I made for you?" I really like that it was something an almost-four-year-old could get such enjoyment out of, while still being something a much older child {or mama} could enjoy doing too. Depending on a child's age and ability level, they can do such different things with the same materials, you know?
Anyway, if you know a little crafter who might enjoy such a thing, this kit is available in Wal-Mart stores, AND CraftProjectIdeas.com has graciously agreed to give one away to a lucky One Artsy Mama reader! Rafflecopter will walk you through the entry process below {sometimes it takes a moment to load, so be patient!}; good luck, and happy crafting!
