Who else has Washi Tape fever?
Man, I love this stuff!
I’ve been trying to come up with lots of fun ways to use it; already I covered a phone jack with it and made some funky coasters {with the help of LC, of course!}. Then, I saw Kelly’s tutorial for a washi tape monogram over at live.laugh.rowe and I knew I had to make me one! Ever since I made the new valances for our bedroom windows, I’ve been looking for the perfect thing to display on the wall between them…I decided a monogram on canvas was just the thing! Whaddya think?
WASHI TAPE MONOGRAM CANVAS
Materials:
– wood or chipboard letter
{I went with the thinnest one I could find since I knew I was using it on the canvas. Michaels had them for $4 and I had a 40% off coupon!}
– assorted washi tape
– 12×12″ canvas
– black acrylic paint and paintbrush
– pencil, scissors, craft glue
My apologies for not having step-by-step photos this time…I thought about making up a good excuse, but the truth is, I was so impatient and excited to make it that I didn’t bother to stop and grab the camera. {Bad blogger! Should I put myself in the corner?}
STEP 1: Cover letter with strips of washi tape. You can either trim the edges with an exacto knife, or wrap the tape around them {which is what I did}.
STEP 2: Pencil in your words, then paint over them. I printed mine out on the computer in mirror image, then used a pencil to kind of sketch them onto the canvas…of course if you’re cool enough to have a Silhouette, this step is presumably much easier and you can just whip up the vinyl and stick it on. {Is it Christmas yet?}
By the way, if you want a background color for your canvas, you can paint that first. I went with the plain white to contrast with the wall and pick up the white in the curtain fabric.
STEP 3: Glue your letter onto the canvas and let it dry.
TA-DA! Isn’t it the perfect thing for that spot? The way the room is set up, it’s the first thing I see when I walk in, and I smile every time.
Happy Crafting!

Very cute! I haven’t tried washi tape yet and I’m not sure what it is, though I’ve seen it around b-world for awhile now. The colors and patterns on your monogram are perfect for your project. Love!
That looks great on your wall…what a perfect place for it…

I really like that idea! We’re moving soon and that might be something I’d do for the kids’ rooms! Fun!
