Do You Feel Lucky?

Ok, I’m feeling a little giggly here…who else read the title of this post and added a silent “punk” in your head?
ANYway, St. Patty’s Day is just around the corner, and it just wouldn’t be right not to share some festive crafts you can do with the littles in your life.  Last Saturday, our good buddies Ms. Erin and her little man, Prince C came over to play and craft with us!
How adorable is he?  And he was giving me all kinds of snuggles and lovin’…I heart little boys!!  So, we decided to make these fun handprint leprechauns; here’s how we did it and you can too!

HANDPRINT LEPRECHAUNS

MATERIALS:
fabric paint: green, black, orange, and a flesh tone of your choice

paintbrush
green fabric
button
double sided iron-on backing {Heat N Bond}
scissors, iron, craft glue/hot glue
cute little person who doesn’t mind having his/her hand painted
canvas bag, t-shirt, or other surface
STEP 1: Prep by putting a paper bag inside the shirt or canvas bag so the paint won’t go through to the other side.
STEP 2: Paint child’s hand with fabric paints; flesh color on the palm, orange on the four fingers.  Do not paint thumb.
STEP 3: Press child’s hand down firmly on surface.  Make sure the surface is turned upside down {ie: top of the bag or shirt facing the child} since the fingers are the leprechaun’s beard.
Try to lift the hand straight back up so the paint doesn’t smear.  Use a brush to fill in any spaces that didn’t transfer well, like the center of LC’s palm.

STEP 4: Use fabric paint to add hair, eyes, and a smile.

STEP 5: Turn fabric facedown and iron Heat N Bond to the back.
STEP 6: Cut fabric into hat shape.  Peel off backing and place on shirt.  Iron in place once paint is dry.
STEP 7: Paint around edges of fabric to prevent fraying.  You can also paint a band and add a button with craft glue or by sewing it on.
STEP 8: If desired, dip fingertip in green paint and press down three times to make shamrocks; draw stem with paintbrush.
Enjoy!  Prince C’s bag is on the left; Little Crafter’s is on the right.  LC decided to use his for storing lollipops!
The boys loved their bags…and I’m sure they’ll love them even more when they’re full of goodies!
…and here’s a peek at LC’s t-shirt.  Thanks to everyone who suggested fun captions on Facebook!  I let Little Crafter himself choose the winner, and his pick was “Kiss Me, I’m Crafty,” submitted by Repeat Crafter Me.
I can’t wait to see him in this on Saturday!
And I have to give a shoutout to Meet the Dubiens, where my friend Erin found the original idea!  Meanwhile, I can’t resist this photo that Erin took for me…thanks, E, for capturing our special little moment.

They turned out great! I haven’t used Heat N Bond before but since I don’t sew, I am going to see how it works for an upcoming project. Thanks for the tutorial and a BIG THANKS for the shout out!!! -Sarah @ Repeat Crafter Me
