{Our} Home for the Holidays: Elf on the Shelf

Hi, friends!  Welcome to the first guest post of the {Our} Home for the Holidays series!!  Are you excited?  I sure am!  My friend Jen from Sunny Vanilla is here today to help us kick things off by sharing about one of her family's fun holiday traditions...it's something we're thinking of starting this year too!  Enjoy!

Hi there!  My name is Jen and I blog at Sunny Vanilla.

I am a wife, a mom, and a lover of all things crafty.

I'm excited to share our family tradition with all of you here at One Artsy Mama! I hope you enjoy it!!!

Last year was our first Christmas as parents, and I have to say, it was the most exciting since I was a kid.  I decided that it was a good time to start a family tradition of our own.  I happened to be at Barnes & Noble one night and I came across a book that included a little elf.  It was called, “The Elf on the Shelf.”

The Elf on the Shelf (w/ light-skinned elf)

I sat in the children’s section and read through the entire book.  I knew then it was the perfect tradition to start in our home.

Every year the same little elf returns to our home sometime around Thanksgiving.  He’s a special elf dedicated just to our family.  He even will get a name one day when our little nugget is old enough to name him.  His sole purpose is to watch over her and report back to Santa if she’s been “naughty” or “nice”.  Each night the elf leaves for the North Pole and magically reappears in a new spot in the house the following morning.  Our little elf is with us every day until the night before Christmas.  This is when he travels back to the North Pole to help Santa deliver all of his presents.

It’s an adorable story that I know will be fun for us over the years.  Even when our kid(s) are older and grown, I still plan on pulling out our little, red elf.  And who knows, maybe one day our grandchildren will learn all about “The Elf on the Shelf.”

I think having a family tradition for the holidays makes for great memories.

Wishing you all a happy and magical holiday season!

Thanks, Jen, for sharing your Elf tradition with us!  Come on back tomorrow to meet my buddy Kara from Happy Go Lucky and hear about how she celebrates the holidays.  And while you're at it, stop by our ongoing party and link up anything that tells about how you celebrate!

  4. We've been doing Elf on the Shelf since our daughter was much younger, she's 8 now but we have our 2 year old son, my daughter named him Buddy after the movie Elf. Our daughter was about 4 and she said one time Buddy winked at her! I think it's because she stared at him too long, lol! But having Buddy in our home makes our Christmas extra special!
