Festive Pretzels

Hope you enjoyed all the pics from Little Crafter’s football party!  It sure was fun to plan, and I was more than a little excited that he picked something all of us love as a theme instead of relegating me to Elmo or Thomas.  As soon as we had a basic idea, I started scouring blogland for inspiration and found all kinds of great things.  I made a Pinterest board called “Party Ideas” and started pinning.  I actually ended up making a few of the things I pinned, including the goal post with his name and yummy candy coated pretzel sticks.
As promised, here’s a little tutorial for how I made them.  Sorry I didn’t take any “during” photos…it was too tricky while I was working with the melted candy…
CANDY COATED PRETZELS
You’ll Need:
1 bag of pretzel rods {this gets you about 24}
1 bag of Wilton Candy Melts in the color of your choice
1 container of sprinkles
waxed paper
coffee mug or tall glass
microwave
spoon
STEP 1: Melt candy according to directions on package.  There’s a stovetop method and a microwave method.  I used the microwave.  I put about half the bag of melts in a coffee mug and microwaved for one minute at 50% power.  Then I stirred, microwaved at half power for 30 seconds, stirred, microwaved for another 30 seconds and it was ready.

STEP 2: Dip pretzel rod into mug of melted candy and roll to make sure it gets completely covered.  I covered the top half of my pretzels; the pic I originally saw covered less…personal preference. 🙂
STEP 3: Place a fair amount of sprinkles directly onto a piece of waxed paper.  Roll pretzel in sprinkles to cover.  To go with my color theme, I used these cookies and creme sprinkles…boy are they tasty!  You can also use regular sprinkles, the little balls, candy crunchies, or any kind of decorative topping you like that goes with your theme and color scheme.
STEP 4: Place pretzel on a sheet of waxed paper to cool and harden.  Repeat until all of your pretzels are decorated.  Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
I was surprised by how quick and easy they actually were to make, considering how fun they look!
If you make some, I’d love to see how they turn out…different colors and sprinkles make for a totally different effect!
The possibilities are endless…I see more of these in this Artsy Mama’s future as the holidays approach!
