My First Knockoff Necklace

Hi.  My name is Amy and I'm a Pinterest-a-holic.  I just joined this week and already I can see that it's going to be a dangerous addiction.  But oh, all the glorious, wonderful, crafty ideas...
Yesterday, Noah and I used an idea I found on there to create his button monogram.
But that's not all...I also found this Anthropologie necklace and pinned it to my jewelry board.
Isn't it fun?  I love all the colors.   Not only do they make it really cheerful and original, it would go with almost any outfit.  I thought to myself, "Hmmm...I have a lot of beads in a lot of different colors...and that's just basic wire wrapping...I could totally do that."  And I was right.

ANTHRO KNOCKOFF NECKLACE
Materials:
- 20 gauge silver wire
- 26 gauge silver wire
- assorted colors and sizes of beads, 22 total
- needlenose pliers, wire cutters

All I did was cut a piece of 20 gauge wire and loosely form the basic shape of the necklace.
Then, I cut a long piece of 26 gauge and securely wrapped one end around the base shape.  I threaded on my first bead, then wrapped twice and threaded the next...and so on around the pendant.  Wrap, string, wrap, string, wrap string.  When I got to the end, I wrapped the 26 gauge wire securely around the "x" where the 20 gauge wire met.  Then I cut off the extra 20 gauge wire and wrapped over it, and finally made a loop to attach it to my chain.

Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out.  If I did it again, I'd make my base shape a little bigger and leave a little more space in between the beads, but I still think it's fun looking and will match a lot of different things.

Oh, and I promised pictures of Little Crafter's new curtain and bed skirt.  Thanks for the help, Mom!  We make a great team...she tells me what to do and I just get to do the sewing. ;)

Hope you're having a great weekend!

  21. This goes to show you that I just can't have an original idea anymore. I pinned this too, and thought it'd be so cool to make one of my own and no one will have done it but it looks so easy...hmm. Still cool, still looks easy, but it's been done. Yours is beautiful!
